Early music

Listen to old music, see how I listen to the most successful classics, with free apps!

The other day I was driving with my kids in the back seat when an Elvis Presley song came on the radio.

I was immediately transported back to my childhood, when my mother would play vinyl records on Sundays while preparing lunch.

It's incredible how music has the power to take us back in time, reliving emotions and memories with a simple melody.

The truth is, I've always been passionate about old music. Those classics from the '60s, '70s, '80s, and even '90s have a different soul.

More poetic lyrics, more elaborate musical arrangements, striking voices.

And the most interesting thing is to see that, even today, with so much technology, it is possible to listen to these gems easily, thanks to the music apps we have at our disposal.

I confess that for a long time I thought these apps were only for new music, current releases, and playlists.

But after I started exploring further, I discovered that they are true treasure chests for those who enjoy good old-fashioned music.

Early music with apps!

Spotify

Spotify is what I use the most. There are complete collections of Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, and even classic Hollywood movie soundtracks.

The good thing is that you can create your own playlists with artists who defined an era, and the app itself even suggests similar songs, which sometimes we didn't even remember existed.

Deezer

Another app I recommend is Deezer. It has a huge, well-organized collection that spans decades.

Sometimes I put on an 80s playlist and listen to Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Whitney Houston…

They even make you want to put on shoulder pads and dance in the middle of the room (my youngest son caught me doing this and ran to tell his mom, of course!).

Youtube music

YouTube Music is also great. What sets it apart is that it has a lot of live covers, historic shows, and some rare recordings.

Just the other day, I stumbled upon a 1970s Eric Clapton performance that gave me goosebumps from start to finish. The kind of thing you don't always find on other apps.

For those who love radio, there's also TuneIn Radio. With it, you can listen to radio stations from all over the world, including those that only play classics.

There are themed stations, like “Oldies 60s, 70s & 80s,” that play all the time here at home when I’m cooking or having coffee in the afternoon.

And if you're like me, a die-hard nostalgic, Music Player Retro is worth a try.

It has that look that reminds you of old devices and organizes your music by decade, giving you a nice feeling of really stepping back in time.

I have a friend, João, who's a retro party DJ. He practically lives on these apps. For every event he hosts, he creates playlists with only songs from a specific era.

He says he can throw a 70s party these days with just his phone and a good internet connection… and people will dance from start to finish!

The beauty of listening to early music lies precisely in this encounter between past and present.

We may live in a digital world, with a thousand and one functions on our phones, but we can still be moved by that song that defined our youth or that reminds us of someone special.

In the end, what matters is that music continues to bridge generations, memories, and emotions. And with these apps, listening to old music has become easier than ever.

So if you, like me, like good old songs, don't waste your time.

Open Spotify, Deezer, YouTube Music, or your favorite app and immerse yourself in this sound time warp.

I guarantee you'll be amazed at all that's yet to be discovered (or rediscovered).
