Something I've learned over the years, working from home with my wife, is to plan the week's shopping.

Choosing wisely at the market can make a difference in the family budget. And with two children at home, every penny counts.

With that in mind, today I want to share with you the Brazilian markets that, based on my experience and that of my friends, offer the best prices and promotions.

Additionally, I'm creating a small calendar with the ideal days to buy certain products.

Where can I find the best deals?

Atacadão and Assaí Atacadista

These two are true price champions. Atacadão is known for offering low prices, especially on cleaning products, hygiene products, and non-perishable foods.

Assaí stands out for its promotions on meats and sausages, especially for those who buy in large quantities.

A friend of mine, who owns a coffee shop, told me that he buys his products every Tuesday at Assaí, because besides being quieter, it's the day they restock and lower the prices from the previous week.

Carrefour and Extra (hypermarket versions)

Hypermarkets offer a wide variety of competitive promotions, especially for those who prefer to use their own apps.

The Carrefour app, for example, has exclusive coupons and flash deals that have saved me almost R$100 on a monthly purchase.

They also offer refunds in collaboration with apps like Méliuz.

Local supermarkets (such as Dia, Hirota, Barbosa and others)

These smaller markets may surprise you. Here in São Paulo, Hirota and Dia often have fruit and vegetable sales on Wednesdays that are unbeatable.

When I lived in the southern part of the city, the Barbosa market had meat sales on Fridays that were totally worth it. Apps like "Clube Extra," "Mais Barato App," and "Meu Carrefour"

Today, with your phone in hand, you can plan your purchases more intelligently.

These apps show you the prices at your nearest store and also let you make shopping lists and track your spending. It's worth it!

Monday:
Ideal for buying baked goods and dairy products close to their expiration dates. Many markets lower prices to clear weekend stocks.

Tuesday:
Excellent day for meats and sausages at wholesale markets. It's also a good day to buy stationery and cleaning products.

Wednesday – Fruit and Vegetable Day
Almost all markets have sales on fruits, vegetables, and legumes this day. Take advantage of this opportunity to stock up your fridge.

Thursday:
There are usually promotions on canned goods, frozen foods, and beverages, especially soft drinks and juices.

Friday:
In many markets, it's meat day. And as the weekend begins, markets have special offers on beer and snacks.

Saturday:
Ideal for those looking for deals on breakfasts and pastries, such as breads, cakes, and specialty sweets.

Sunday:
Many large markets take advantage of this opportunity to clear their weekly stock. If you arrive early, you can find discounted cheeses, yogurts, and cured meats.

Extra tip

If you have extra time, compare prices in two or three markets on your phone before leaving home.

I've done it several times and discovered, for example, that a can of powdered milk that cost R$27 in one supermarket cost R$19 in another 10 minutes away.

And look… for those who work hard and strive to balance the family budget, this kind of savings at the end of the month can represent another gift for the children, a dinner with a loved one, or even some money saved for emergencies.

I invite you to try this plan for a month and then tell me if you notice any difference.

After all, as an acquaintance who sells fruit at the market near my house says: "He who buys well, lives better."

If you'd like, I can prepare a comparison chart with supermarket apps and promotions for you to print or save on your phone. Just ask!
