How to get free tickets for seniors? Learn about the Brazilian law that brings several benefits to seniors, including plane tickets!

Traveling is one of the things that gives me the most peace. I always say that when we visit a new place, our souls seem to expand a little.

And if you're over 60, did you know you're entitled to free travel on several modes of transportation here in Brazil?

That's right. And it's not nonsense, it's the law!

The Senior Citizens' Statute guarantees a series of benefits for people over 60, and one of the most impressive is access to free or discounted tickets for interstate travel.

I discovered this when I accompanied my father on a bus trip to the interior of Minas Gerais. The savings were real, but what impressed me most was his enthusiasm when he boarded: he was like a child.

See now how to get free tickets for seniors…

Who is eligible for free tickets?

The rule is simple: people over 60 years of age, with an income of up to two minimum wages, are entitled to two free tickets per vehicle, train, or vessel providing interstate transportation.

In other words, you'll be able to leave your home state and visit your children, grandchildren, or even that city you've always wanted to visit, without spending money on travel.

What happens if both available seats have already been taken? In this case, the senior citizen is still entitled to a 50% discount on the ticket price.

How do I request free admission?

The process is easier than many people imagine. I'll explain how I did it with my father:

Documents on hand: You must present a photo ID and proof of income. If you don't have proof, you can sign a self-declaration of income.

Application deadline: The recommendation is to make the request at least three hours before the trip (for bus companies), but I always recommend doing so a few days in advance, especially on busy dates.

Where to place your order: You can do this directly at the ticket offices of bus, train, or ferry companies that offer interstate transportation. Some already offer this service online, but they are still few.

Golden tip: use apps!

These days, there are apps for everything, right? One that's helped me a lot is ClickBus, which allows you to search for tickets and even provides information on vacant seats for seniors on some companies.

I also recommend installing apps like BusBrasil, Guichê Virtual, and even ClicRodo, which tend to provide this information more clearly and help with trip planning.

Benefits that go beyond savings

The truth is that the right to mobility for older adults isn't just about saving money. It's about ensuring dignity, freedom, and quality of life.

I have a neighbor, Mrs. Lurdes, who, whenever she can use the benefit, visits her daughter in Mato Grosso do Sul. She says it's the most anticipated time of the month.

And that's the beautiful part of this. Because legislation, when used well, unites families, soothes longings, and makes dreams come true. And best of all: without compromising your budget.

If you are at this stage of life or have a loved one who is, don't miss out on free travel for seniors.

It is a well-earned right, provided for by law, and one that can transform old age into a time of new horizons.

Traveling after 60 is possible, affordable, and liberating.
